Mindfulness Mala Workshop

  • Houston Community Center 109 W Maple Street Houston, MN 55943 (map)

Often, asana-or practice of the poses-is the first aspect of Yoga that comes to our minds, but the Yoga tradition is rich with practices to help you deepen your embodied experience and navigate challenges of everyday life.  One such practice is the use of mala beads, a string of beads that has been traditionally used for meditation.  The MINDFULNESS MALA WORKSHOP will incorporate asana, breath, mantra, meditation and the creation of a 27-bead wrist mala.

We will start with a mindful, breath based, all-levels movement practice to help us cultivate some clarity, focus, and relaxation.  After some movement, we will discuss mantra repetition as one meditation technique and how to incorporate a mala into this practice.

You will then create your own 27-bead wrist mala by selecting from several “bead kits” personally created using semi-precious stones such as jasper, carnelian, agate, and onyx, and Bali silver.  You will be taught the symbolism of the mala and guided in making your own.  After that, you will be lead in using your wrist mala in meditation and mantras helping to center, support, and steady your path to a more balanced life.

You will walk away holding your beautiful new wrist mala knowing you have a tool that will support changing your perspective of meditation and taking time for transformation in your life.
